Pioneering Filipino company Specserv, advocates the pro-environment initiative through the DAKU Roof Garden Engineering System, which uses material and technology that promote green living. DAKU is the first leak-proof, lightweight and low-maintenance European-designed roof garden system in the Philippines. It uses the insulated technology of a Nuraplan PVC sheet membrane and the efficient water storage and drainage system of FSD 20, to bring the perfect urban roof garden to any high-rise.
With urban roof gardens proven to have environment, economic, and emotional benefits, many notable buildings in the metro, such as Rockwell Center and Greenbelt 5 in Makati, the Medical City in Pasig, the Mind Museum in Taguig have joined the local green revolution with Specserv and DAKU. All share the goal to lower their environmental footprint through reduced energy costs and at the same time creating welcome spaces for social interaction.
DAKU is exclusively supplied and installed by Specserv, which takes pride in its 30 years of extensive knowledge and experience on waterproofing, roof gardening, and general construction. Over the years, it has become a well-trusted name among architects, designers, and developers. With the intention to extend the green benefits of DAKU to individual customers, Specserv has modified DAKU and dubbed it BUNGKAL. Short for Bubong Kalikasan or “Nature’s Roof,” the recalibrated technology now offers affordable and adjustable light-roof garden systems to residences without sparing any of DAKU’s original materials so that more can be part of this inner city ecological innovation.
“In our campaign ‘to green the grey,’ we believe the megacities we live in need not be concrete jungles. There can still be pockets of greenery that nourish the soul and at the same time help solve broader environmental issues—one rooftop at a time,” said Sonny Javellana, Specserv president.
